The Bachelor of Software Engineering (Hons) program is designed to prepare students for dynamic careers in the ever-evolving field of software development. It equips them with comprehensive skills in software development, encompassing the entire process from system specification through to post-deployment management.

The program emphasizes understanding user requirements and developing effective software systems while addressing critical issues such as security, socio-economic and cultural considerations, personal development, responsibility, and work ethics. By combining fundamental principles of computer science with specialized training in software design, development, testing, and maintenance, the program ensures graduates are well-prepared to meet industry demands.

Students must finish 123 credit hours, which includes a final year project and a 14-week internship at an IT-relevant department or organisation, in order to graduate.

  • A pass in Matriculation or Foundation studies with a minimum CGPA of 2.00; OR
  • A pass in STPM with a minimum grade of C (CGPA 2.00) in any TWO (2) subjects or any equivalent qualification; OR
  • A pass in STAM with a minimum grade of Jayyid in any TWO (2) subjects; OR
    AND a credit
    in :

    1. Additional Mathematics at SPM level or its equivalent; OR
    2. Mathematics and any one of the Science, Technology or Engineering subjects at SPM level or its equivalent.

Notes:

  • Candidates for category (b) need to take a Reinforcement Mathematics with appropriate topics in the discipline of Computer Science, Data Science or Software Engineering at the beginning of the study.
  • Students are required to pass the reinforcement Mathematics as a prerequisite before being allowed to take related core courses. The candidate can sit for any subjects that did not indicate Mathematics as a prerequisite.

  •  Reinforcement Mathematics can contribute to the overall graduating credit.
  • Students from Matriculation / Foundation or its equivalent can be exempted from taking Reinforcement Mathematics, provided that the Mathematics offered at that program level is equivalent / more than the Additional Mathematics offered at an SPM level.
    1. A pass in STPM (Science Stream) or its equivalent with a minimum grade of C (CGPA 2.00) in Mathematics subject and ONE (1) Science / ICT subject; OR
    2. Diploma in Computing (Level 4, MQF) or its equivalent with a minimum CGPA of 2.50OR
    3. Any Diploma in Science and Technology (Level 4, MQF) with a minimum CGPA of 2.75; OR
    4. Diploma Kemahiran Malaysia (DKM) / Diploma Vokasional Malaysia (DVM) in Computing fields with a minimum CGPA of 2.50 subject to HEP Senate / Academic Board’s approval; OR
    5. Diploma Lanjutan Kemahiran Malaysia (DLKM) in Computing fields with a minimum CGPA of 2.50 subject to HEP Senate / Academic Board’s approval.

Notes #2: 

Candidates for categories (1) until (2) with CGPA below 2.75 but more than 2.00 may be admitted subject to a thorough internal evaluation process.

ENGLISH COMPETENCY REQUIREMENT (INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS)

Achieve a minimum score of 5.0 in the IELTS or equivalent.

If a student does not meet this requirement, the HEP must offer English proficiency courses to ensure that the student’s proficiency is sufficient to meet the needs of the programme.

International : RM 65,570.00

Upon successful completion of the program, students should be able to:

  • Apply theoretical and practical knowledge in computer science and software engineering to design, develop, and deploy reliable software solutions.
  • Proficiency in identifying, analyzing, and solving complex problems through innovative and efficient software engineering approaches and the capability to integrate critical thinking with creative approaches to develop innovative software solutions.
  • Familiarity with emerging tools and technologies such as AI, IoT, cloud computing, and cybersecurity to meet current and future industry needs and demonstrated ability to engage in continuous learning and adapt to technological advancements and industry trends.
  • Ability to work effectively and competently in articulating technical information clearly through oral, written, and visual communication methods tailored to diverse audiences in multidisciplinary and multicultural teams to achieve project objectives.
  • Commitment to ethical practices, professional integrity, and responsibility in managing software engineering projects, leading teams, and ensuring timely delivery while maintaining quality standards and decision-making.
